I never intended to talk about poop or potty training on mommytechbytes. I really wanted to keep it clean. But that was yesterday. Today, I was introduced to the iPotty for iPad and it’s opened up a whole new world.
We all know “i-poopers” who use digital devices for company while they take care of business. We joke about it (however unsanitary it is) and why? Because poop is funny. But is this the precedent we want to set for our children? As the mom of a tech-obsessed, stubborn 3-year-old girl who still insists on wearing diapers, I have to admit that I am really intrigued by the iPotty. Could it have the power I’ve been seeking all this time? Can it help take my daughter on a magic journey to the land of big girl underpants? When the iPotty is released to the public for sale next month and my 3 year old is still not potty trained after 3 yrs and 2 months, I have to ask, should I or shouldn’t I?
First, what is it and is this thing for real?
The iPotty for iPad made its first appearance this week at the CTA booth of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It’s a toilet training helper for digitally enthusiastic tots. How exactly does it help? From what little has been publicized so far, it’s a potty with an iPad dock that swivels and has a splash guard. It does not come with any additional apps (those can be downloaded separately from the iTunes App Store).
Is this a good idea for parents, who, like me, have kids more committed to the iPad than the potty? Or, would it set a precedent that every time your child goes into the bathroom, he/she can be accompanied by an electronic device? The iPotty will be available in February through CTA Digital for $40.
